Okay, here is the first post. I’ve never run a website so I have no idea what I’m doing.

The main thing to point out is that THIS IS FUCKING INSANE.

You can point out all you like that US imperialism has existed in different forms since the beginning, and blah blah blah. But I’m sorry, that is like pointing out that navigation has always been a tricky affair from the safety of your perch on the deck of the Titanic.

Why is the current policy especially pernicious?

American imperialism is baked into the entire system and we all benefit from it every day and constantly. The whole world monetary system is based upon the US dollar. The entire system as a whole revolves around the US. In such a situation, it is always possible to act like a bully, and push for “more”. But the current president does not understand that any victory he achieves with such posturing is already baked into the system as it currently exists. He does not understand that the US has already “won”. All that can be achieved by explicitly exploiting this position of power is making everyone remember that that is how it works and feel disgusted by it.

Greenland is a perfect encapsulation of this. The US already has full access to Greenland for security purposes. It is in a position to secure rights to extract resources if that becomes economically viable. (That is the subject for another post.) In short, it can do whatever it wants. But Greenland is not territorially part of the USA, and the Mercatur projection makes it look like a very big piece of real estate indeed.

I am already tired of talking about this. Asking about the current policy is like asking the cookie monster what his policy is regarding East Cookie-stan. A generational collapse in one of the parties in a two party system has delivered us an illiterate child monster of a president who can apparently do whatever he likes. Congratulations, politicians.
